1) Introduction
1.1) What does this "Product Exclusion" feature do?
The new Product Exclusion feature gives merchants flexibility and control over how loyalty points are earned in their stores. With this tool, you can choose to exclude specific products or collections from earning points during purchases.
1.2) Where can I find this feature?
Step 1: Head over to the OMNI app, and navigate to "Program" from the navigation menu on the left of your Shopify Dashboard.
Step 2: Click on "Point earnings" under your Program settings
Step 3: To access the feature, click on the arrow next to "manage excluded products"
You should now be guided to this screen shown below, and you are now ready to set this feature up.
2) Adding products to exclude
2.1) Method 1: Through the "Add product" button
You can conveniently add products to exclude from point earning by clicking the button as shown below.
Once you click the button, this pop-up will show up, where you can select any product you want to exclude from point earning and click on "Add".
You can only select 1 product at a time when you use the "Add product" feature. If you have too many products that you would like to exclude from point earning, you can use the bulk import method instead. See 2.2 for more details.
Once you press "Add", your product should show up on the Excluded Products page like this:
2.2) Method 2: Bulk Importing Products
For this method, you will have to keep in mind that importing products requires a CSV File prepared by you, which includes the product ID of each product you would like to exclude. The product ID can be found by following these steps;
Step 1: Head over to your Shopify Admin Dashboard, and select "Products" from the navigation menu on the left.
Step 2: Select a product that you want to exclude from point earning.
Step 3: The ID can be located on the URL on this page, as highlighted below.
Once you have found the product ID of all products you want to exclude from point earning, you now have to make 1 column on your CSV named "product_id" and input all product IDs of products you want to exclude, as shown below:
Please make sure that your CSV has only 1 column with the title "product_id" (exactly this), less than 100 rows (product IDs), and that all the Product IDs inputted are valid and have exactly 13 numbers.
Export this file as a CSV, then follow the steps below.
i) Bulk Importing New Products
Step 1: Click the "Import" button on your Excluded Products page.
Step 2: You will be greeted with 3 options. To import new products, select the radio button with the text "Add products to the list", and then press confirm
Step 3: Click on "Choose file" and select the CSV that you have created.
Step 4: You should receive this message indicating that the import is in progress and that you will receive an email soon. Once the excluded products are imported, you will receive an email telling you that your excluded products have been updated and you will also be able to see them in the list.
Please be reminded that your product has to be available in the "Online Store" Sales Channel for it to be excluded. If you want your product to be excluded from point-earning and from the "Online Store" Sales Channel as well, then there is a workaround.
Workaround: Click on the product you want to exclude -> Enable "Online Store" as a sales channel -> Exclude that product from point earning -> Disable "Online Store" as a sales channel.
ii) Replace the entire current list of products with new products
If you already have imported products, like shown above, and now you want to replace ALL of them with new products, follow these steps:
Step 1: Select "Import" again on your Excluded Products Page, but this time click on "Replace the entire list with products in the csv".
Step 2: Just like we did before, prepare a CSV with product IDs of products that have not already been excluded but which you want to replace the current excluded products. Once the CSV is prepared, export it and import it.
As mentioned before, please make sure that your CSV has only 1 column with the title "product_id"(exactly this), less than 100 rows (product IDs), and that all the Product IDs inputted are valid and have exactly 13 numbers. Moreover, please also make sure that the product IDs provided in the CSV are not of products that are already excluded.
Step 4: You will receive an email similar to the one shown in the previous method telling you that the process succeeded and soon you should see your products replaced with the ones provided in your CSV.
2.3) What if my CSV mistakenly contains an error?
If your CSV contains an error, such as
- Multiple columns
- More than 100 rows
- An invalid product ID (more than 13 numbers),
then you will be greeted with a popup saying this:
Moreover, if your CSV contains other types of errors, such as:
- Duplicated entries of product IDs
- The Product ID is 13 numbers, but the product does not exist in your store,
then you will receive an email saying that your products were unable to be excluded from point earning, with a CSV file attached showing why they weren't able to be excluded, as shown below:
If you receive any of these errors, please make sure that your CSV is in the right format with the rules provided, and then retry importing your products.
Sometimes, the pop-up might also say that your csv format is incorrect, like this:
If this occurs, you have to check if the column containing the product IDs is named exactly like "product_id" or not. Changing it to "product_id" will most likely fix your problem.
3) Deleting products from point-earning exclusion
To delete products from point earning exclusion, you have 2 methods you can use;
3.1) Method 1: Using the bin icon to delete products
To perform this, simply press the "bin" icon next to the product you want to stop from excluding for point earning, then press the "confirm" button.
3.2) Method 2: Import products that you want to delete from the product exclusion list
To delete products in bulk from the product exclusion list, you have to prepare a CSV file like the ones we prepared multiple times already, but this time, only include product IDs that you want to enable point earning for again.
As an example, this is what we are starting off with:
If I want to delete the first and second products from Excluded Products, I will have to prepare a CSV file that has the product IDs of the first two products, just as shown below:
Now, I will export this CSV file and import it by first clicking the "Delete all products in the CSV from the list" option from the radio button options and then choosing my CSV file.
After this process, you will again receive an email telling you that the process was successful and then you will be able to see that the products have been deleted from the Excluded Products page:
If it shows an error, please make sure that your CSV has only 1 column with the title "product_id" (exactly this), less than 100 rows (product IDs), and that all the Product IDs inputted are valid and have exactly 13 numbers. Moreover, please also make sure that the product IDs provided in the CSV are the ones you want to delete (they have to already exist in your Excluded products list)
